بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ
﴿۱﴾
Qarib: Perish the hands of AbiLahab, and perish he!
Sarwar: May the hands of Abu Lahab perish! Shakir: Perdition overtake both hands of Abu Lahab, and he will perish Pickthall: The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. Yusufali: Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he!
مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ
﴿۲﴾
Qarib: His wealth will not suffice him, neither what he has gained;
Sarwar: May he too perish! Shakir: His wealth and what he earns will not avail him Pickthall: His wealth and gains will not exempt him. Yusufali: No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains!
سَيَصْلَى نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ
﴿۳﴾
Qarib: he shall roast at a Flaming Fire,
Sarwar: His property and worldly gains will be of no help to him. Shakir: He shall soon burn in fire that flames, Pickthall: He will be plunged in flaming Fire, Yusufali: Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of Blazing Flame!
وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ
﴿۴﴾
Qarib: and his wife, laden with firewood
Sarwar: He will suffer in a blazing fire Shakir: And his wife, the bearer of fuel, Pickthall: And his wife, the wood-carrier, Yusufali: His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!-
فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِنْ مَسَدٍ
﴿۵﴾
Qarib: shall have a rope of palmfiber around her neck!
Sarwar: and so too will his wife who (threw thorns and firewood in the Prophet's way). Around her neck will be a rope of palm fibre. Shakir: Upon her neck a halter of strongly twisted rope Pickthall: Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre. Yusufali: A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck! |
